Price, the event’s top seed, drew first blood in a tricky first set, but Cullen restored parity with a clean sweep, before punishing Price’s profligacy in the third set to advance 2-1.

The Welshman regained his focus to cruise through the fourth set with legs of 15, 13 and 14 darts, with the deciding set following a similar pattern.

Price claimed that he “is still the best in the world” after reaching the quarter-finals in Leicester.

“I put myself under a lot of pressure, but when my back was against the wall I produced my best darts,” reflected Price, who is aiming for a third consecutive World Grand Prix final.

“I’m nowhere near my best. I was way off the pace early on, but I produce my best stuff under pressure, which is brilliant.”

‘The Iceman’ next faces a quarter-final showdown against Razma, after the Latvian defeated Gurney 3-1 to reach the quarter-finals of a television event for the first time in his career.

After losing the first leg of the match, Razma responded to take the first set and never looked back as he wrapped up an impressive performance, which included five 180s and an average of 92.4.

“I’m in the quarterfinals. It sounds amazing. I’m living my dream and I think I can go further,” said an optimistic Razma, who is about to break into the world’s top 32.

“I am very happy. I am improving step by step and I feel like I can beat everyone here. My new goal is to be in the top 32 for the World Championship.”

Aspinall and Noppert exchanged words after a tense conclusion to their match that was marred by the crowd.

Aspinall staged a remarkable 2-0 comeback to see off UK Open champion Danny Noppert, surviving four darts to reach his second World Grand Prix quarter-final.

‘The Asp’ seemed to be staring down the barrel of a straight-set loss at one point, but the tenacious Stockport star fought bravely to preserve her hopes of a double-opening maiden crown.

Noppert snatched a hard-fought opening stanza after Aspinall wasted five darts in the set, his frustration compounding when the Dutchman doubled his lead in a deciding second set.

Aspinall closed out a tough third set to keep her hopes alive, and then produced her best spell of the match to force a fifth and final set, hitting 104 and 100 finishes to maintain her comeback.

Noppert seemed to have turned the tide after taking a 2-0 lead in the fifth set, but after failing to land the darts in the third leg, his game unraveled in an action-packed conclusion.

The Dutchman took 13 darts to set up an opening brace in an incredible final stretch, and Aspinall took full advantage to reach his second televised quarter-final of 2022.

The 37-year-old former constructor recovered from a counting error in the fourth leg of the deciding set in the 45th to prolong the drama.
