Usyk vs AJ: Predictions from boxing experts ahead of the big rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua | boxing news

Ahead of Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk’s momentous rematch tonight, live on Sky Sports Box Office, a panel of experts have made their predictions for the big fight.

Usyk’s dynamism and refined skills will be difficult to contain, so the competition will depend on whether Joshua, with a new training kit, can make adjustments and impose his power-hitting style on the brilliant Ukrainian.

After a tense final showdown at Friday’s weigh-ins, they have nothing left to do but fight.

Anthony Joshua gives his reaction to an intense showdown with Oleksandr Usyk, with the pair now just one day away from their long-awaited rematch.

Carlos Frock Usyk (stop)

I think Usyk will be too smart for him and not only beat AJ but potentially get the stoppage.

The obvious answer to who wins is that Usyk wins because he was so one-sided, so conclusive in the first fight. But Anthony Joshua underperformed. He didn’t work out any kind of game plan. He was a bit like a deer in the headlights, which is ridiculous because he’s a heavyweight champion. But there’s a lot of pressure on his shoulders when he goes in there. Commercially and outside the ring there are many things. So when he goes through the ropes, I think he overthinks it sometimes. If he can get back to basics, this could be a different fight.

joseph parker – Usyk

I think in the first fight he wanted to show his boxing ability against someone like Usyk, who is very skilled, has a lot of movement, a lot of tricks, so for him trying to get past Usyk was a little hard to watch.

Joseph Parker questions whether Oleksandr Usyk can handle ‘pressure’ from Anthony Joshua in Saturday’s rematch, live on Sky Sports Box Office

So going into this fight, I’m sure he’s going to come in with a different game plan. He has a great trainer behind him who has brought a lot of world champions into fights and it’s interesting, I’m not sure how he’s going to pan out. I side with Usyk just because of the confidence from the first fight and he is the champion. But you never know with boxing… If Joshua has the drive and the physicality to put him on him from round one to round 12 and sustain him all the way, I don’t know if Usyk can take that kind of pressure.

Lawrence neighborhood – Josue

I think AJ does it impressively, impressively. The occasion, the energy leans towards a real rock ’em sock ’em fight and as you can see, standing next to each other, AJ has clear physical advantages and I think he will pull it off.

Anthony Joshua’s new trainer Robert Garcia reveals what it’s like to work with AJ and admits a win on Saturday would be the best win of his coaching career

Michaela Mayer – Usyk (stop)

Joshua made a lot of mistakes in the first fight with Usyk. The main one is that he had a kick jab instead of a stiff one and was waiting for the counter or opening, rather than creating it. Usyk is too busy and too busy for that. He controlled the entire fight. I want to see Joshua step up and fight Usyk with heavy, hard punches and finishing with hooks.

However, it’s hard to change after so many years of doing the same thing and I’m not sure he’s had enough time with his new coach to make the necessary adjustments. If AJ kicks and backs off like he did in the last fight, I’ve got Usyk by a knockout near the sixth round. If AJ makes the proper adjustments, he could always score a knockout as well, but I don’t see him winning on points.

Former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield has urged Anthony Joshua to contain his emotions if he is to emerge victorious against Oleksandr Usyk.

frazer clarke – Joshua (stop)

There are a lot of people out there talking about Usyk being so good and this and that. He is very good. No doubt. He is a great fighter. But he is a human. If AJ hits him in the chin more than once, he’s only human, he falls down, he probably won’t get up again.

If Joshua gets a sustained combination of anyone in the world, boxer or non-boxer, he runs through them.

This could be Britain’s best heavyweight boxing night ever. I feel like everyone is putting him up as a massive underdog and he could be outclassed by 12 rounds. But it would be foolish to bet against him.

UFC champion Israel Adesanya believes Anthony Joshua needs to bring out the lion in him if he wants to beat Oleksandr Usyk

johnny nelson – Joshua (stop)

We saw what happened last time, the tactics were wrong. He even admits it. The public says that he needs to throw the kitchen sink at her. You can’t throw the kitchen sink at him. It has to be polite pressure. It has to be a bully.

The devil is in the details. If Anthony Joshua can stick to the plan, I say Anthony Joshua stops Oleksandr Usyk in the middle rounds.

Matthew Macklin – Usyk (stop)

I think whatever happens it will be a knockout. I don’t think I’ll go 12 rounds. I think Joshua gets him out of there within six or he’ll run out of gas trying and end up getting pulled over late. I think the intensity Joshua needs to reach to get the win is not sustainable over 12 rounds. So with that intensity, he’ll catch Usyk, guide him to a shot, catch up to him. Or in the process of trying to do that he will run out of gas and then Usyk will stop him later.

I think the safest bet is Usyk. She was pretty strong with Usyk before she came here. But everything Robert Garcia told me made me see how Joshua could win this. This is much closer than I initially thought.

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville make their predictions for Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua, live on Sky Sports Box Office

Jaime Carragher – Usyk

I think Usyk will be victorious. Tactically, Joshua was wrong in the first fight. Anthony Joshua tried to be technical and not use his strength and power, where he has a big advantage over Usyk. But I still think Usyk is too cute, too smart and he will come out on top.

gary neville – Josue

In that first fight, AJ didn’t throw his punches, right? He didn’t go out there and he did it with that extra strength and that extra power that he has. I think he’s going to go out there and go all guns blazing and go for it and he’s going to do it!
