The San Francisco 49ers are off today. The team returns to the practice field tomorrow. Anyone who follows the team even a little closely knows that the second-year quarterback trey lance he’s had an up-and-down training camp. That was to be expected. This offseason is the first to take the most snaps at quarterback. Plus, Lance goes against what many expect him to be one of the best defenses this season and has had starters on and off the offense while he did.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport joined the Pat McAfee Show and shared what he heard and witnessed about last year’s No. 3 overall pick. While none of that is new information, Rapoport still discussed Lance’s “ups and downs” training camp.

McAfee hilariously expressed his shock as if the report was something unexpected or unknown. However, it’s worth noting that he apparently admits that he’s only seen practice highlights, so it’s obvious he doesn’t keep up with the news coming out of Santa Clara.

The video is worth watching for McAfee’s humorous overreaction alone. Regardless, below is what Rapoport had to say about Lance.

“I know when I was out there a couple of days ago, there were a lot of ups and downs, which is fine,” Rapoport said. “He’s very raw. He’s learning as he goes. And there are certainly some accuracy issues. Yesterday (Sunday) was quite a difficult day, [completing] less than 50 percent of his passes.

“I think that’s the way it’s going to be because they’ve got great defense. They’re going to absolutely run without the ball. He’s a second-year player who needs to figure it out. They did that.” big change last year for 15 years, not for year 2, so there’s a lot of talent, a lot of talent, and he’s going to make some ‘wow’ plays.

“And everything else, the accuracy, the ups and downs, they’re going to have to live with them. And I think because they’re so talented defensively, very, very talented, and they’re going to run the ball well, I think they’re going to be able to handle that, especially early on. But there’s been a little bit of ups and downs.”
