King Charles probably won’t invite prince harry Y Meghan Markle to his coronation if Harry harmfully attacks his wife Camilla, the queen consort, in his next booka friend of the new queen told The Daily Beast.

“Just about everything Charles has done in the last twenty years has been, in one way or another, getting the public to accept Camilla,” the friend said, “He loves her. He is incredibly protective of her with her and he couldn’t do it without her. Even the queen finally accepted that. It’s one thing for Harry to attack Charles, he can take it seriously, but if Harry forces him to choose, by harassing Camilla in his book, I have no doubt that he will choose Camilla.”

Harry and Meghan aren’t making any big changes to the Netflix reality show, report says

The palace declined to comment to The Daily Beast on this story. Sources at the palace say simply that the guest list issue is on the “tbc” pile, leaving the door open for Harry and Meghan to get the call, or be shut out.

Given that Harry has promised that his yet-scheduled memoir will be a “totally honest” account of his life, it seems impossible to imagine that it won’t include a detailed account of the collapse of Charles and Diana’s marriage, caused in part, as Diana herself clearly stated, over Charles’ ongoing affair with Camilla.

Diana made it clear Andrew Mortonfor his book Diana, her true storythat he considered Camilla far from an innocent bystander, and that she was just as responsible for the continuation of the affair as Charles.

In a memorable encounter recounted by Morton in Diane: in her own words, said that Camilla invited Diana to lunch before their wedding and asked Diana if she would go hunting with Charles after they were married. Diana said that she wouldn’t.

“Diana then realized that Camilla saw Charles’s love of hunting as a conduit to maintaining her own relationship with him,” Morton wrote.

The Daily Beast understands that there is tremendous nervousness in Charles’ circle about what the book might reveal, especially since a direct attack on Camilla’s character would be devastating for Charles.

While Harry has yet to attack Camilla in the same way he attacked his father, whom he accused of cutting him off financially, not answering his phone calls, and being indifferent to his suffering among many other alleged cruelties, she has notably failed to greet her elevation to queen.

Katie Nicholl, author of the new royals Y vanity fair The royal correspondent told The Daily Beast: “There is no doubt that Charles would like Harry and Meghan to be at his coronation. And to be fair to Charles, he has been magnanimous in terms of extending, very publicly, olive branches to the Sussexes, not just in his televised accession speech but also putting them front and center at funeral events.

“But he expects respect in return, and there will be a problem if, from time to time, Harry repays him by attacking him, Camilla or the institution. He will not tolerate imprecise and unfair attacks.

“The queen was ruthless when it came to protecting the institution, and so will Charles, and we’re possibly seeing that in the lack of urgency in making Archie and Lilibet prince and princess. I understand that Charles is not averse to giving them titles, but he hopes to see the respect of the Sussexes in return.

“The ball is in the Sussex court. The royals, just like the rest of us, are waiting to see what they do next.”

The question of what the Sussexes intend to do (how deep the secrets they will reveal in their next salvos, how painful and damaging the secrets they will reveal in their next salvos) is the great “known unknown” that prevents any true reconciliation, or the feeling of reaching an agreement. new and stable accommodation, although uncomfortable, between the two sides.

While the queen was alive, the ambiguity, while not helping, was something both parties could live with. In one version of eventsHarry and Meghan intended to publish the book and stream their films this year, then spend the next year rebuilding burned bridges.

The death of Queen Elizabeth completely eliminated the viability of such a strategy.

But Windsor’s stubbornness is a powerful thing, and there has been no sign that Harry and Meghan have even attempted to reconcile in any meaningful way while in the UK for the queen’s funeral rites.

Despite a handful of carefully choreographed joint events with William, Harry is said to have been infuriated by a number of perceived gimmicks including being seated in the second row during the funeral at Westminster Abbey, being allowed to wear a uniform during a vigil for the queen. but the queen’s EIIR cipher was removed, signifying her role as aide-de-camp, she was banned from wearing a uniform at other times, and William’s camp informed reporters that their joint ride at Windsor Castle was William’s idea. .

Duncan Larcombe, the royal author and former royal publisher of the Suntold The Daily Beast that if the Montecito couple were serious about making peace with the royals to secure an invite to Camila and Charles’s coronation, a good first step would be to wish William and Kate well when they visit Boston in December to promote the Earthshot Award.

And he added: “What Harry and Meghan say and do in the coming months it really matters. Her actions over the next few weeks could decide not only what relations with the royals will be like for the coronation in May, but what they will be like for the rest of their lives. It all depends on what he, in particular, says in his book, which is, by the way, the most anticipated royal book of all time and the first written by a member of the family.

“If the palace decides not to invite Harry, one way around it is to simply say that the coronation is an institutional event, not a family event, and therefore is only for working royals. While it will be an extraordinary snub for Harry if he’s not invited to support his father on the most important day of his life, it’s equally hard to see how the king can invite him if the backdrop to the coronation is Harry sticking machetes into his back. of Charles and Camilla while promoting in his book.”

“Charles seems to be keeping his powder dry until he sees what they come up with,” Larcombe added. “He has not yet made Harry and Meghan’s children a prince and princess, although they are entitled to those titles by law and by precedent.

“That’s a carrot that could be left around for years to come. Charles is certainly not rushing to make a statement one way or another, and he may be taking comfort in reports that Harry is desperately trying to rewrite the parts of the book that are most critical of his father.”

The reality for Harry and Meghan is that everything has changed.

Of course, they need the money. But Harry must be wondering how tenable it is to take on a man who is now one of the most powerful in the world, a monarch who has all the levers of the vast machinery of the British state to pull at his whim.

As the coronation will make abundantly clear, they are no longer arguing with a nosy little prince. They’re arguing with a king, and that’s a very different proposition.
