King Charles probably won’t invite prince harry Y Meghan Markle to his coronation if Harry harmfully attacks his wife Camilla, the queen consort, in his next booka friend of the new queen told The Daily Beast.
“Just about everything Charles has done in the last twenty years has been, in one way or another, getting the public to accept Camilla,” the friend said, “He loves her. He is incredibly protective of her with her and he couldn’t do it without her. Even the queen finally accepted that. It’s one thing for Harry to attack Charles, he can take it seriously, but if Harry forces him to choose, by harassing Camilla in his book, I have no doubt that he will choose Camilla.”
Harry and Meghan aren’t making any big changes to the Netflix reality show, report says
The palace declined to comment to The Daily Beast on this story. Sources at the palace say simply that the guest list issue is on the “tbc” pile, leaving the door open for Harry and Meghan to get the call, or be shut out.
Given that Harry has promised that his yet-scheduled memoir will be a “totally honest” account of his life, it seems impossible to imagine that it won’t include a detailed account of the collapse of Charles and Diana’s marriage, caused in part, as Diana herself clearly stated, over Charles’ ongoing affair with Camilla.
Diana made it clear Andrew Mortonfor his book Diana, her true storythat he considered Camilla far from an innocent bystander, and that she was just as responsible for the continuation of the affair as Charles.
In a memorable encounter recounted by Morton in Diane: in her own words, said that Camilla invited Diana to lunch before their wedding and asked Diana if she would go hunting with Charles after they were married. Diana said that she wouldn’t.
“Diana then realized that Camilla saw Charles’s love of hunting as a conduit to maintaining her own relationship with him,” Morton wrote.
The Daily Beast understands that there is tremendous nervousness in Charles’ circle about what the book might reveal, especially since a direct attack on Camilla’s character would be devastating for Charles.
While Harry has yet to attack Camilla in the same way he attacked his father, whom he accused of cutting him off financially, not answering his phone calls, and being indifferent to his suffering among many other alleged cruelties, she has notably failed to greet her elevation to queen.
Katie Nicholl, author of the new royals Y vanity fair The royal correspondent told The Daily Beast: “There is no doubt that Charles would like Harry and Meghan to be at his coronation. And to be fair to Charles, he has been magnanimous in terms of extending, very publicly, olive branches to the Sussexes, not just in his televised accession speech but also putting them front and center at funeral events.
“But he expects respect in return, and there will be a problem if, from time to time, Harry repays him by attacking him, Camilla or the institution. He will not tolerate imprecise and unfair attacks.
“The queen was ruthless when it came to protecting the institution, and so will Charles, and we’re possibly seeing that in the lack of urgency in making Archie and Lilibet prince and princess. I understand that Charles is not averse to giving them titles, but he hopes to see the respect of the Sussexes in return.
“The ball is in the Sussex court. The royals, just like the rest of us, are waiting to see what they do next.”
